What is it really like to be a firefighter?

what is it really like to be a firefighter? how is the menatl toll on you? how many times do you actually severly risk your life by going into collapsing buildings, seems most fire calls are pretty easy routine calls, how many calls do you averagly go to per shift? what are days off like? what is your family life like? how is the pay? what is shiftwork like? I am thinking about becoming a firefighter I just want to know what im getting into
