Is it acceptable to date your exboyfriends friend/?

I dated someone for 2 months and we were both very similar and it didn't work out. We are still friends now. Would it be acceptable to date one of his friends a year later? They are both in the same fraternity and I don't want that image, but its more weird to me because we are all friends.
