Does this mean anything: My guy friend joked about us dating?

I've known this guy forever but we only just recently started hanging out one-on-one. He calls me his friend, but we both happen to be single. Last time he invited me to do something he jokingly said "it'll be our second date." He's really attentive and tells me how much he likes hanging out with me, so sometimes I wonder if he wants to be more than friends. But then again, he has lots of female friends so I can't really tell? What's your opinion?
